■ Administrative Municipality Directly under the Central Government
Secretary: Sun Zhengcai
Mayor: Huang Qifan
Chongqing is the only one of the four municipalities directly under the central Government of China (Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing) that is located in the mainland. As the core city of the Chinese mainland, it has a great economic development prospect. Connecting the downstream Wuhan and Shanghai through Yangtze River, it takes just 17 days to travel from Chongqing to the Europe by putting Yu-Xin-Ou International Railway into operation. Chongqing is not only a mainland basis of manufacturing, but a basis of trade and logistics to the Central Asia and the Europe. In the area of industry, Chongqing is unparalleled mainland basis of laptop and automobile industry.
(The municipality directly under the central government of China is a city of the highest level, the same administrative unit as the province. The municipalities directly under the central government of China are Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Tianjin.)
(To develop the western areas in the mainland, the central government has been constructing the infrastructure including railways and highways and improving the investment environment of such areas since 2000.)
■ The economic growth rate of Chongqing is much higher than the average level of the nation. It is estimated to be rapidly increasing in the future.
It is recorded that the average economic growth rate of Chongqing in 15 years till 2012 is 12.2%. And its economic growth rate is far higher than the overall average level of China since 2007.

■ Tremendous Growth Potential of Chongqing
The economic scale of China surpassed that of Japan in 2010, making the second largest of the world, but the per capita GDP of China was USD 6,076 in 2012, ranking 86th among 185 countries. China is an economic giant and a developing country. The per capita GDP of Chongqing was about USD 6,200 in 2012. The per capita GDP of the main coastal city surpasses the standard of USD 10,000 of developed country. Thus there is an economic development gap even in China. The western areas, including Chongqing, have been gradually transiting to relatively developed areas, formally entering the stage of economic growth with a quite large growth potential in the future.
■ Among the manufacturing industries in Chongqing, the automobile and laptop industry are regarded as the two pillar industries.
