    Liangjiang attracts global talent

    By Tan Yingzi

The 2016 Chongqing International Talent Innovation Entrepreneurship Symposium will be inaugurated in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area from Nov 28 to 29, with the aim of attracting highly-skilled individuals from home and abroad to start businesses in Chongqing.

It will provide a platform for overseas returnees and foreign experts to start businesses in communications, commercial design, marketing, production and capital management.

A global innovation entrepreneurship competition was launched earlier this year to encourage new entrepreneurs with innovative projects to settle in Chongqing.

The competition has toured the world, visiting America, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Europe, before returning to China. Only 50 of the best projects out of thousands of entries can make it through to the final in Chongqing. These will later participate in the symposium, in order to seek investors.

Liangjiang New Area is the first inland state-level pilot zone for development and the third in China after Shanghai Pudong and Tianjin Binhai.

To encourage entrepreneurship, the new area has issued a series of policies and subsidies to startup companies, including rent cuts, tax cuts, housing subsidies and seed money.

“We will set aside at least a 100 million yuan talent fund ($14.5 million) each year, 10 billion yuan seed capital fund and over 1 million square meters of housing for skilled staff,” said Zeng Jinghua, deputy secretary of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Party’s Work Committee, who is also in charge of human resources.

“People are the key to innovation and we must attract more skills to Liangjiang,” Zeng added.
